In his early years, Lee favoured however his mother soon banned him from that activity due to the searing heat of the outdoor basketball court. Lee began to learn badminton at the age of 11, when his father, who liked to play the game, brought him to the badminton hall. Attracting the attention of a local coach, the coach asked Lee's father if he could take him as a student. After receiving the nod from his father, the coach began to train Lee after school. He was drafted into the national squad when he was seventeen years old, but had been in KL in BJSS for many years.
Chong Wei was brought up in BM, just outside Penang Island, within the Penang state in Malaysia.
Chong Wei is a hero to many people and is the perfect role model to all youngsters, his attitude both on and off court is second to none, he always has time for his fans, signing autographs or taking photos (even in Chinatown, Birmingham on a Saturday night with his Uncle YC )

Lee picked up only a title in 2002 and 2003, major achievement in reaching the final of the 2003 Malaysia Open, his first final of a major tournament, tame to defeat in the hands
Lee then secured two titles in 2004, the Malaysia Open and Chinese Taipei Open. Lee gained a spot for In his first Olympics appearance, Lee defeated in the first round. His journey ended in the second round when he was beaten by Chen Hong. Lee then bagged another two titles in 2005, his second Malaysia Open title and Lee bagged bronze in his first appearance in the world meet, the after losing to eventual winner in the semifinal.
More famously though Lee Chong Wei now holds two consecutive All England titles,
The first was the first time Chong Wei answered his critics, keeping cool and winning his first 'major' in the badminton world.
The second however was done in real fashion answering every one of his critics, by doing it the hard way.
Chong Wei destroyed arch rival Lin Dan in the final in two straight games, giving him the 101st All England Championship title and the 100th time the singles was played there.
When told that 2011 was the 100th time the singles was played Chong Wei's reply was "huh? did they count it wrong last year!"
